Burke Electric's involvement in hydroelectric work began in 1958 at Palisades Dam in Idaho. Since then, hydroelectric construction has been a continuous staple for our company. We have at some point, in the past 45+ years of business, worked at every dam and powerhouse on the Columbia River from Grand Coulee to Bonneville, as well as several projects on the Snake River. Our experience in hydroelectric work has included projects in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Colorado, Massachusetts and Wyoming.

XLS Breaker Replacement- Grand Coulee, WA

This project included the demo & installation of 24 sections of indoor metalclad switchgear. Cable tray, conduits, 15kV, medium voltage and control cabling were extensively modified. New protective relaying & metering schemes were implemented. The replacement of station service equipment & SLS control switchboard modifications were completed with minimal outages and were critical to the overall completion.

Cougar Dam Exciter Replacement- Cougar Dam, OR

This project replaced 2 existing 12,500kW, 6900 volt excitation systems with 2 each digital control systems. Additional activities included bus, cable, conduits, cable tray, CT's & PT's.

Switchgear and Bus Replacement at Lookout Point Dam- Lowell, OR

This project scope included the installation of 3 each switchgear assemblies, which included 5 new main circuit breakers and associated voltage transformers, CT's, surge arrestors and capacitors. Also included was the replacement of 5kV bus duct and the modification of cubicles to accept the new equipment.
